Beginning in year 2018, I return in painting watercolor which I have left behind since 2012. BUT, I replaced the watercolor pigment with acrylic pigment simply for the vibrancy result it can offer. I paint wet in wet to create results just like the watercolor does - using the water as vehicle to achieve color texture. I mingle in between impressionism and realism. I love the result by using paper than using canvas for certain color texture especially when I am painting an animal. I love the fact that paper and its texture become an important part of the art.
Cat has been my favorite animal to paint. I have been painting a lot of cats in small version recently. Here is a selection of the best work I have done so far and I like to offer them for print products. Some of the originals might be still around for sell through my eBay store - ecsooarts.
I used to have 10 cats before I had moved to The States. It was wonderful experience to observe the behaviors of cats and their way of communication. I learnt that in the eyes of a cat, we humans are just another species of cat. They would respect you and your territory the same way you treat them. My cats allowed me to be part of their lives - introduced me to their kittens as trusted friend, respected my food and dinner table, wouldn't take my seat and bed....just like I did to them. So, they have given me their biggest catch as "thank you" gift. It was heart breaking that I have to leave them to someone when I moved. I did see one of them after many years when I visited my hometown. I spoke with it, but I think it was very miserable because it was separated with the other cats. It has been looking high and low for them for all those years, including me. Its adoptive cat buddy tried to explained that to me - oh, if only i can understand all those syllables uttered by it.
In the black cat series, I have a virtual pet named Midnight. I fictionalize the stories of Midnight through out the series. I imagined it being in the wood, walking in the garden, or resting somewhere....
